About this position
The Morimoto Lab at the University of California, San Diego is recruiting multiple postdoctoral scholars for an interdisciplinary project on autonomous, soft, tip-extending robots for stroke treatment.
The project aims to enable fully autonomous navigation through vessels with severe tortuosity and curvature, which are currently difficult even for highly trained specialists. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the full development cycle of the soft robotic system, including design, fabrication, modeling, planning, controls, integration, and testing.
The position is based in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering within the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego. The postdoc will work directly with Dr. Tania Morimoto and collaborate closely with Dr. Michael Yip and Dr. Nikolay Atanasov from Electrical and Computer Engineering. The role is also part of a broader multi-institutional effort involving collaborators at Stanford University, UC Santa Barbara, Vanderbilt University, UNC Chapel Hill, the University of Missouri Kansas City, GE Healthcare, EndoTheia, and Vine Medical.
This is a research-intensive opportunity centered on soft robotics, autonomy, and translational medical engineering, with substantial interaction across robotics, engineering, and clinical-oriented partners.
