About this position
UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and Department of Economics are recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar for the O’Donnell Center for Behavioral Economics and Finance (Job #JPF05559).
The position is centered on behavioral economics, behavioral finance, development economics, labor economics, and household finance, with additional connections to neuroscience, cognitive science, and medicine. The scholar will work with Professor Ulrike Malmendier and coauthors Matthew Ridley (Warwick University) and Kate Orkin (Oxford University) on a funded research agenda studying how predictability and controllability shape economic responses to stress, especially in labor markets.
Planned work includes designing and supervising randomized controlled trials (RCTs), developing treatment scripts and tasks, training local teams, collecting and analyzing data, and helping write presentations and drafts. Initial experiments are planned in Kenya, with possible expansion to Western industrialized countries and neuroscientific evaluation.
Eligibility: applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) by the start date, or be enrolled in a Ph.D. program at application time, and have no more than three years of post-degree research experience. Strong preparation in economics, finance, econometrics, theory, field experiments, applied microeconometrics, or applied data science is preferred.
Funding: this is a salaried postdoctoral appointment with a UC postdoc salary scale minimum of $71,491–$79,727, with renewal possible depending on performance and funding availability. The appointment starts in Spring 2027 and is initially for two years.
How to apply: submit the application through the UC Berkeley Academic Recruit portal, upload a CV and cover letter, and provide two references. The final application deadline is 2027-02-01.
