About this position
This postdoctoral appointment at Louisiana State University is part of the Valve Performance Clearinghouse (VPC) consortium, a joint industry effort focused on gas lift valve testing and artificial lift research. The scholar will work within LSU’s Petroleum Engineering area on experiments designed to evaluate valve performance for member companies and vendors.
The project is strongly experimental and hands-on. The successful candidate will plan, set up, and run high-pressure flow tests, handle instrumentation and test execution, and process and analyze the resulting data. The role also involves preparing technical reports and deliverables for consortium members, presenting results at consortium meetings, and serving as the main technical contact with industry partners.
Beyond the testing program, the scholar will contribute to broader research in gas lift and artificial lift systems, including authoring journal and conference papers and helping to develop new research proposals. The position sits in the LSUAM Engineering - Petroleum - Flow Lift Systems Heat Transfer and Design and Engineering unit and is based in Patrick F. Taylor Hall.
The work environment combines laboratory and field testing with collaboration across university and industry settings. It emphasizes experimental research, data-driven analysis, and communication of results to both academic and industrial audiences.

What's required
A PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geosciences, or a closely related field is required. The role requires 0 years related experience at minimum, with preferred post-PhD experience of 1-2 years. Hands-on experimental experience is required, including expertise in experimental fluid flow research, laboratory testing and instrumentation, and engineering data analysis. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to write technical reports and peer-reviewed publications. Preferred experience includes a research record in artificial lift, especially gas lift, or flow through valves, orifices and chokes, plus experience with high-pressure flow testing, data acquisition systems, and working with industry sponsors or joint industry consortia. All candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment. If the highest degree is from an international institution, a credential evaluation report must be submitted prior to hire.
