About this position
The University of Iowa is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Scholar for a dual appointment with the CADRE Health Services Research & Development Center of Innovation at the Iowa City VA Health Care System and the award-winning Business Analytics Department in the Tippie College of Business.
The postdoctoral researcher will work primarily with Diana Jalal and Nick Street, with additional collaboration from Michihiko Goto and Benjamin Griffin. The research combines machine learning, data science, and clinical health services research using Veterans Affairs data.
Projects include predicting acute kidney injury caused by nephrotoxic medications, identifying predictive variables for acute kidney injury of varying severity and duration, developing machine-learning-based antibiograms to guide antibiotic decisions, and studying medication dosing for Veterans with chronic kidney disease. The scholar will build predictive and interpretable models, analyze clinical outcomes, prepare manuscripts for leading journals, develop grant proposals, and participate actively in ongoing research.
Applicants must hold or be close to completing a PhD in machine learning or a closely related field and must have practical predictive machine learning experience. Reinforcement learning, interpretable machine learning, and clinical applications of machine learning are desirable. Strong writing, communication, organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, and independent-working skills are expected.
This is a one-year, full-time appointment with a salary of $61,008 or commensurate. Additional years may be possible depending on performance and funding. Applications require a curriculum vitae and remain open until the position is filled. The position is based in Iowa City, United States.
