About this position
Stewart Postdoctoral Scholar – Mycology at Colorado State University is a postdoctoral opening in mycology, fungal genomics, bioinformatics, AI, genome annotation, and computational biology. The position is based in Fort Collins, Colorado, United States, in the Department of Agricultural Biology.
The selected scholar will analyze fungal genomes generated through the Mycological Curriculum for Education and Discovery (MycoED), a program designed to scale fungal genomics research and training through partnerships with undergraduate and graduate teaching laboratories. Core work includes annotation and analysis of fungal genomes, investigation of genotype-phenotype relationships, development of AI and traditional software tools, and creation of data schemas and bioinformatics workflows to support student and faculty research.
This is a research-focused postdoctoral role with opportunities to lead first-author publications, contribute to multiple manuscripts, present findings, and create instructional videos and web services for MycoED and MycoCosm-related resources. The postdoc will also support ongoing student-driven genomics projects and help improve access to fungal genomics data and tools.
Eligibility requirements include a PhD in bioinformatics or a closely related field, experience with Python or other coding/data-processing languages, experience developing and using AI tools for biological research, strong communication and organizational skills, and prior experience presenting research. Preferred qualifications include experience with fungal genome annotation or fungal biology, SQL/databases, and teaching or course-material development.
Funding: salary range is $60,000–$65,000. The posting does not mention tuition or fee waivers. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must pass a background check; a valid driver’s license is also required by the start date.
