About this position
University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar in Physiology and Cell Biology for the Gut–Brain Science Laboratory led by Dr. Rajan Singh. The project is part of an NIH-funded research program focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying gastroparesis, gastrointestinal dysmotility, intestinal barrier dysfunction, and broader gut–brain interaction disorders.
The research combines neurogastroenterology, mucosal immunology, gastrointestinal physiology, molecular biology, single-cell transcriptomics, advanced imaging, and translational human tissue studies. The successful candidate will study how gut-resident macrophages regulate gastric neuromuscular function and epithelial barrier integrity, using genetically engineered mouse models and human gastric/duodenal biopsy specimens.
Responsibilities include in vivo GI physiology experiments, gastric emptying and transit measurements, barrier-function assays (Ussing chamber/TEER and permeability), immune-cell isolation and characterization, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, single-cell RNA sequencing, miRNA profiling, and CyTOF-based immune phenotyping. The scholar will also help prepare manuscripts and conference presentations and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external investigators.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in physiology, cell and molecular biology, immunology, neuroscience, gastroenterology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field. The degree must have been completed within the last five years, and prior professional-rank appointments are not allowed. Strong experimental biomedical research experience, excellent communication skills, collaborative ability, and evidence of productivity are required. Experience in GI physiology, neurogastroenterology, macrophage biology, mucosal immunology, mouse models, and related molecular/cellular techniques is highly desirable.
This is a full-time postdoctoral position with salary competitive and commensurate with education and experience. The posting is open until filled, so applicants are encouraged to apply immediately.
Funding details
