About this position
Louisiana State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to research the market potential and construction applications of solid carbon produced through turquoise hydrogen.
The project will develop a material flow analysis framework for the use of solid carbon in U.S. asphalt and concrete markets. The researcher will investigate how incorporating solid carbon affects the mechanical, thermal, and durability performance of construction materials, and will map performance thresholds—including strength, modulus, and fatigue—against incorporation rates to define safe and effective use limits.
The work also includes designing pavement and building elements to quantify potential material savings from individual elements through community and network scales, developing regional building and infrastructure archetypes, estimating solid carbon demand by material type and region, and preparing technical reports and journal manuscripts. The scholar will coordinate project data and analyses with the research team and present results to stakeholders.
The position is based in the LSUAM Engineering environment and involves conducting experiments and research under the close supervision of Assistant Professor Hessam AzariJafari. It offers interdisciplinary exposure across civil, structural, and materials engineering, with applications to hydrogen-derived materials, pavement systems, buildings, and infrastructure planning.
