About this position
The Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology (CCMB) at the University of Southern California’s Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar – Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr. Yang Chai. The position sits within a research program focused on the regulation of developmental patterning, organogenesis, stem cells, and regenerative medicine, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms that shape normal and abnormal craniofacial development.
Work in the Chai Lab centers on understanding the biological processes that underlie craniofacial birth defects and on developing the scientific basis for future stem cell-based craniofacial regenerative medicine. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of CCMB on USC’s Health Sciences Campus, in an environment described as vibrant, collaborative, and interactive.
The role offers the chance to participate in weekly seminars with researchers working in developmental biology and stem cells in tissue regeneration, while also benefiting from cross-training opportunities spanning bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, and translational medicine. The position also supports collaboration with experts nationally and internationally.
The postdoctoral scholar will contribute to highly technical and complex research projects and will have opportunities to work with advanced laboratory methods and instrumentation, including molecular genetics, flow cytometry, immunology, microbiology, DNA and RNA isolation from FFPE tissues, RT-qPCR, PCR array methods, immunohistochemistry, tissue microarrays, and digital image analysis.
The research program is supported by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
