About this position
Dr. Longwei Liu’s laboratory at the University of Southern California is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar to work at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and biological discovery. The lab is jointly supported by the Department of Ophthalmology in the Keck School of Medicine and the Alfred E. Mann Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Viterbi School of Engineering, reflecting a highly interdisciplinary environment.
The project focuses on programmable biological systems to probe cellular signaling and develop new therapeutic and diagnostic technologies. The scholar will contribute to mechanistic and translational studies aimed at advancing therapies for degenerative diseases and cancer. The advertised work includes designing and characterizing molecular constructs, engineered cells, biosensors, or therapeutic proteins, and testing candidate systems in cell-based assays and, where relevant, preclinical animal models.
The position offers substantial research independence within the laboratory’s broader program. The postdoctoral scholar will have opportunities to lead an independent project, collaborate across engineering and medicine, mentor trainees, present findings, and help develop manuscripts and fellowship applications. The role emphasizes rigorous, reproducible research and a collaborative laboratory culture with a strong focus on experimental troubleshooting, data interpretation, and translational impact.
USC describes itself as a major research university in Los Angeles, and the position is on-site at the Health Science Campus.
