About this position
The University of Southern California is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar – Research Associate for the Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics, housed within the Schaeffer Institute for Public Policy and Government Service and jointly affiliated with the Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Sol Price School of Public Policy.
The position is designed for a scholar who wants to deepen analytical skills and advance an independent research agenda in health policy and health economics while contributing to the Center’s mission of improving value in health through evidence-based policy solutions, research excellence, and collaboration across the public and private sectors.
The selected postdoctoral scholar will work closely with a primary mentor and collaborate with USC faculty on research projects aimed at advancing the Center’s mission and the scholar’s own career development. The role emphasizes highly technical and complex research work under supervision, with a strong training component and opportunities for extensive collaboration with distinguished researchers. The advert also notes that protected time to finish outside projects is often available.
The research environment spans USC’s broader policy and health ecosystem, including the Schaeffer Center’s links to the Price School’s policy and management strengths and the Mann School’s expertise in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical care, and outcomes research. The post sits within a highly interdisciplinary setting where public policy, health policy, economics, and healthcare research intersect.
The position is explicitly research-focused and centered on health services and policy analysis using administrative healthcare data and causal inference methods.
