Christopher Tape, Professor of Cell Communication at the UCL Cancer Institute, is recruiting a PhD student for a four-year project starting in January 2027 (flexible). The project asks whether all regions of a tumour are equally capable of adapting to treatment. The research focuses on colorectal cancer cell plasticity, including transitions from a fast-growing, chemotherapy-sensitive state to a wound-healing, drug-resistant state, and how the tumour microenvironment shapes these changes. The st...

About this position

Postdoctoral Scientist opportunity at The University of Manchester in the Systems Oncology Group led by Professor Claus Jørgensen.

This full-time postdoctoral role focuses on protein biochemistry, cell signalling, proteomics, and phosphoproteomics in the context of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and the tumour microenvironment. The project aims to develop and apply novel sample-processing methods for cell-specific phosphoproteomics analysis of metastatic pancreatic cancer.

The successful candidate will work across an international collaboration between the White lab at MIT (USA) and the Jørgensen lab at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute in the United Kingdom. The role involves learning methodology in the White lab and applying it to PDAC 3D and in vivo samples in Manchester, contributing to ongoing research projects within the Systems Oncology Group.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in biochemistry, cancer biology, or a related field; essential experience in protein biochemistry and cell signalling analysis; beneficial experience in phosphoproteomics and in vivo cancer models. Strong independent thinking, teamwork, communication, and organisation are emphasized.

Location: Manchester, England, United Kingdom.

Deadline: 30 October 2026, 18:00.

How to apply: Use the jobs.ac.uk application link provided in the post. Informal enquiries can be sent to Professor Claus Jørgensen at [email protected].
