About this position
Gunma University in Maebashi, Japan, invites applications for two fixed-term part-time research positions within an AMED project on brain aging models, digital twins and personalized disease prevention. The roles are based in the Center for Education and Research in Mathematical Data Science and are available as Assistant Professor-equivalent or Researcher/Postdoctoral-equivalent appointments.
One position focuses on ELSI and social acceptability research. The researcher will study ethical, legal and social implications of a digital twin/personal health record app and predictive AI, including risk perception and behavioral changes when people receive information about their future health. The work may use interviews, questionnaires and experimental psychological or behavioral-science methods.
The second position focuses on public and patient involvement (PPI) and data measurement. Duties include dialogue with citizens and patients in Gunma Prefecture, health consultations, MoCA-J cognitive-function testing, body-composition and blood-pressure measurements, and analysis of participants' opinions and data. Training for MoCA-J certification and measurement procedures will be provided after appointment.
Both positions involve planning interviews and questionnaire studies, analyzing data, preparing research ethics documents, writing academic papers and presenting at conferences. Relevant areas include psychology, sociology, cognitive science, neuroscience, public health, medical science, community health nursing, nutrition and health sciences.
Applicants need a master's or doctoral degree, or expected completion, and doctoral students may apply. Category-specific qualifications apply, particularly a recognized healthcare or welfare license for Category 2. Strong Japanese communication and writing skills, interdisciplinary collaboration and commitment to completing research are required. The positions run from April 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter, through March 31, 2028, with possible annual renewal to March 31, 2030.
Pay is 1,843–2,214 yen per hour, with estimated annual income of approximately 2.3–3.2 million yen depending on workload. Applications must arrive by December 2, 2026, and should be submitted as one PDF by email to [email protected].
