About this position
The project:
Transparency is a cornerstone of DeFi, but it comes at the cost of privacy. This research aims to address privacy concerns by exploring methods that could enhance confidentiality without sacrificing the openness DeFi protocols rely on. This project could investigate the application of cryptographic techniques like zero-knowledge proofs, zk-SNARKs, and homomorphic encryption to enable private transactions and user identity protection. The candidate would analyze the trade-offs between privacy and regulatory compliance, examining how confidential transactions can coexist with Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering requirements. Through simulations and blockchain prototyping, this research could pave the way for a more privacy-centric DeFi environment, which is crucial for attracting both retail and institutional users concerned about data security.
Candidate requirements:
Applicants must hold/achieve a minimum of a merit at master’s degree level (or international equivalent) in a science, mathematics or engineering discipline. Applicants without a master's qualification may be considered on an exceptional basis, provided they hold a first-class undergraduate degree. Please note, acceptance will also depend on evidence of readiness to pursue a research degree.
