About this position
Research Fellow (Computational Microbiome Scientist) at Monash University will join the Gunjur Laboratory at Box Hill Hospital and contribute to a growing computational microbiome research program. The role is embedded in a university research environment that combines clinical and laboratory science with strong computational support.
The project investigates relationships between the human-associated microbiome, diet, and cancer outcomes. The successful researcher will work across prospective clinical cohorts, biospecimens, shotgun metagenomics, and large public datasets, helping to build evidence on how microbiome patterns connect to cancer-related outcomes.
Day-to-day work includes developing and applying bioinformatics methods for shotgun metagenomic sequencing and other omics datasets, establishing reproducible computational workflows, supporting study design and data curation, and carrying out statistical analysis and data integration. The role also involves producing publication-quality figures, reports, and presentations, plus contributing to manuscripts, grant applications, and the supervision and training of research students.
The position works closely with the principal investigator in an active research program focused on microbiome and cancer research. It is a fixed-term research appointment within Monash University, offering the opportunity to contribute to an important and expanding area of computational biomedical research.
