About this position

The University of Greenwich is recruiting a Research Fellow in Cyber Security and Privacy to join its Centre for Sustainable Cyber Security at the Greenwich Campus in the United Kingdom. The successful candidate will be employed by the London and South-East (LASE) University Group and work within the University of Greenwich academic division.

The role forms part of the EU-funded GANNDALF project, which investigates the privacy-explainability trade-off in the use of explainable artificial intelligence for modern cyber crime investigations. Research will focus on agency-to-agency data sharing, decision-support tools for cyber threat identification, and a customisable collaborative crime-investigation sandbox for sophisticated investigations.

The Research Fellow will advance work on optimising explainability strength while accounting for privacy, and will contribute to pilot implementations and evaluations. The research environment is supported by the Centre for Sustainable Cyber Security, recognised by the UK government as an Academic Centre of Excellence for both Research and Education in Cyber Security.

Applicants should hold a PhD in computer science or an equivalent qualification and have a strong publication record in privacy-enhancing technologies or explainable AI. The appointment is fixed term until 30 September 2027, with potential for extension. The salary is £38,784–£44,746 per year, plus £4,313 London weighting.

Applications must be submitted online through the University of Greenwich vacancies page by 2 November 2026. For an informal discussion, contact Professor Georgios Loukas at [email protected].
