About this position
The University of Warwick is recruiting a full-time Research Fellow for a three-year fixed-term position based in Coventry, United Kingdom. The role is formally located in the Warwick Mathematics Institute and the School of Life Sciences, with research based in the Zeeman (SBIDER) Institute.
The successful researcher will join a pan-European project focused on the containment and control of important plant pathogens and invasive pests. Research will involve developing mechanistic mathematical and epidemiological models, writing efficient computational code to simulate spatio-temporal spread, fitting models to complex data, and evaluating robust control strategies. The work offers opportunities to collaborate with mathematical modellers, plant scientists, pest managers, and policy stakeholders across Europe.
Applicants should have a strong quantitative and computational background and ideally experience in epidemiological modelling. Experience developing models, handling complex datasets, fitting mathematical models, and working in interdisciplinary teams is desirable. An interest in plant pests and diseases, or willingness to learn, is welcome. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills and the capacity to develop independent research ideas.
The post is full-time and fixed-term until 12 October 2029, with a salary of £36,320–£46,970 per year. Candidates who have not yet been awarded their PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted may initially be appointed as Research Assistants and promoted to Research Fellow after successful PhD award.
Applications close at 11:59pm UK time on 11 November 2026. Applicants should submit a CV, publication list, short research statement, cover letter, and details of three references through the University of Warwick application portal. Informal enquiries may be directed to Professor Matt Keeling at [email protected].
