About this position
Research Fellow in Molecular Virology at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
This is a research position in the laboratory of Professor Mark Harris focused on molecular virology, antiviral immunity, and the characterization of novel host factors that block virus assembly. The project builds on recent findings involving PKR and IRF1 and will investigate candidate genes that may inhibit the assembly of infectious virus particles.
The research will initially use hepatitis C virus as a model system and will also assess effects on other pathogenic viruses such as Chikungunya virus and SARS-CoV-2. The post is based on campus and is part of a large interdisciplinary laboratory working across multiple viruses.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD in molecular virology or a closely related discipline, or be close to completion. Experience working with pathogenic viruses in a BSL3 laboratory is required, together with relevant cell biology and/or biochemistry skills.
Funding and terms: the role is funded for 36 months by a Wellcome Discovery Award. Salary is Grade 7 (£41,064–£48,822 p.a.). The university also notes flexible working arrangements may be discussed.
Application window: deadline is 15 May 2026. Apply via the University of Leeds jobs portal using the official vacancy link.
