About this position

Ritsumeikan University is recruiting research fellows for the Multisensory and Cognitive Design Laboratory in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. This is a fixed-term postdoctoral/researcher equivalent opening for about two people, with work centered on cognitive science, experimental psychology, information science, and food science.

The lab focuses on research about perception and cognition, especially the relationship between the human mind and food. The position is connected to projects such as KAKENHI and the JST Strategic Basic Research Program CRONOS “Bodyverse: Creation of a Foundation for Interaction between Humans and Internal Organs,” and includes collaboration with researchers inside and outside the university as well as with companies.

Successful applicants will plan and conduct experiments and surveys, analyze data, present at academic conferences, and write papers. The laboratory also supports individual research themes, and those themes are not limited to food. The environment may suit candidates interested in sensory evaluation, human nutrition, experimental psychology, cognitive science, and related interdisciplinary work.

Applicants should hold a doctorate, or be expected to obtain it by the stated eligibility date. Experience with experiments, surveys, data analysis, and academic writing is desirable, but the posting also welcomes motivated applicants who want to learn new experimental equipment and software. A willingness to collaborate across projects and a desire to work near Ritsumeikan University Biwako-Kusatsu Campus are also highlighted.

The salary ranges from JPY 3,240,000 to JPY 3,960,000 annually, depending on experience and achievements. The contract is fixed-term and may be renewed subject to review. The application window runs from October 27, 2026 to November 25, 2026, with possible early closure once a suitable candidate is found.

Applications are submitted via the JREC-IN Portal or by email. Required documents include a resume, achievement list, research skills list, contact information for at least two researchers, up to five representative publications, and proof of degree or expected degree completion.
