About this position

Two Research Support Positions (m/f/d) are open at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, within the Department of Comparative Development and Genetics. The role supports daily laboratory work on mechanisms underlying plant development and plant diversity.

Successful applicants will work closely with experienced research technicians and scientists and contribute to cultivating and characterizing developmental traits in plant strains derived from mutagenesis and wild collections, as well as transgenic plants. They will also help generate new transgenic plants and support the maintenance of genetic collections, media preparation, and the daily running of an S1 lab.

Relevant academic and technical areas include plant genetics, molecular biology, Arabidopsis, CRISPR/Cas, and potentially single-cell approaches. Experience with genomic DNA extraction, PCR, cloning, plant cultivation, and transgenic plant work is essential; Arabidopsis and CRISPR/Cas mutant experience is a strong advantage.

The institute seeks highly motivated candidates with an organized working style, strong teamwork skills, excellent documentation, computer literacy, and fluent English. Applicants should have completed professional training as a research technician with first professional experience, or hold a B.Sc. in plant genetics or an equivalent discipline with work experience or additional qualification.

This is a full-time employment position for one year, starting as early as possible and no later than February 2027, with the possibility of renewal. Salary and benefits follow the German TVöD scale and depend on experience, knowledge, and qualifications.

Applications must be submitted in English via the online system by 2026-11-20. Prepare a single PDF including a short motivation letter, brief CV, and the name and contact details of one referee.
