About this position
University of Copenhagen is advertising a Researcher position in the molecular and physiological regulation of muscle glycogen degradation at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), Maersk Tower, Panum Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark.
The project is hosted in the Sakamoto Group and focuses on skeletal muscle physiology, exercise metabolism, glycogen metabolism, enzyme kinetics, and stable isotope tracer methods. The work uses novel genetic preclinical models, including point mutations affecting glycogen phosphorylase regulation and muscle-specific deletion of glycogen synthase, to study how allosteric ligands, phosphorylation, and muscle glycogen content control glycogen breakdown and substrate utilization.
The successful candidate will carry out major biochemical and physiological analyses, including in vitro kinetics of wild-type and mutant enzymes, in situ and ex vivo muscle analyses, whole-body metabolic phenotyping in transgenic mouse models, and in vivo substrate utilization and nutrient flux measurements during and after exercise. The role also includes coordination with collaborators and supervision of students and researchers.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, cell signaling, physiology, or a related field; at least four years of postdoctoral experience; strong hands-on experience in protein biochemistry, skeletal muscle metabolism, rodent preclinical studies, exercise modalities, and stable isotope tracer work; FELASA certification or similar; strong project management, teaching, and supervision experience; excellent English communication.
Employment terms: full-time, fixed-term for 2 years, starting 1 January 2027 or by agreement. Salary and pension follow the Danish AC agreement, with possible supplement depending on qualifications.
Application deadline: 1 October 2026, 23:59 CET. Apply online in English and upload a motivation letter, CV, certified/signed PhD certificate, and publication list as PDFs.
