About this position
RIKEN’s Bioresource Research Center, Integrated Information Development Office, is recruiting one Researcher or Special Research Fellow/Postdoctoral-level researcher for work on ecosystem dynamics, mathematical biology, and data analysis. The position is based at the RIKEN Tsukuba Campus in Ibaraki, Japan.
The project integrates theoretical ecological and physical knowledge of ecosystem dynamics and develops general-purpose technologies for ecosystem control. Research may involve energy terrain analysis, nonlinear time-series analysis, reservoir computing, time-series causal inference, network analysis, mathematical modeling, large-scale data analysis, and data visualization. The broader office develops information infrastructure for bioresources, including data integration, international standardization, cross-search, website development, and analytical platforms.
Applicants must hold a doctorate. Special Research Fellows generally must have received the degree less than five years before April 1, 2027, while Researcher applicants should have at least five years of postdoctoral research experience. Relevant backgrounds include nonlinear dynamics, statistical physics, statistical science, intelligent information science, mathematical biology, theoretical ecology, life science, and microbial ecology, together with a strong interest in biological phenomena, high-dimensional systems, or mathematical and statistical methods.
The fixed-term appointment is for one year initially and may be renewed based on performance and institutional or project conditions until March 31, 2029. Annual income starts at ¥4 million, with allowances and social insurance provided. The application deadline is December 31, 2026, and the anticipated start date is June 1, 2027 or later, negotiable. Applications require a resume, achievement list, and additional electronic forms submitted according to the RIKEN public-offering instructions. Shortlisted candidates will give a 20-minute presentation during the interview.
