About this position
The National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology is recruiting a Senior Researcher/Postdoctoral-equivalent researcher for its Department of Disease Genome Research within the Medical Genome Center. The position is based in Obu, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and focuses on genomic and omics research into age-related diseases.
The successful researcher will analyze biomolecules from patients with diseases including dementia, musculoskeletal disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. The work combines comprehensive genomic and omics analysis with genetic statistics, genomic medicine, and molecular biology to identify disease-related molecules and clarify disease mechanisms.
Research activities include developing disease-onset prediction methods such as polygenic risk scores and biomarkers, elucidating disease pathways and the broader causes of disease, exploring molecules relevant to drug discovery and drug repositioning, and analyzing molecular functions. The researcher will contribute to innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches based on large-scale patient-derived data.
In addition to independent research responsibilities, the role involves participation in projects across the Department of Disease Genome Research, guidance for researchers' theses, and technical instruction for assistants. The research environment connects clinical disease samples, genome-scale data, molecular analysis, statistical genetics, and translational medical research.
The appointment is for a five-year fixed term, with reappointment subject to review.
