About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through its Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC), is inviting applications for two Post-Doctoral Fellow positions focused on the development of multifunctional bio-sourced hydrogels for agricultural applications.
The project is a collaborative effort with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is supervised by Professor Youssef Habibi. It aims to convert locally abundant biomass into high-added-value components and integrate them with fertilizers and/or bio-based additives using sustainable pathways. The work is positioned at the intersection of advanced materials, chemistry, and agriculture, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, performance testing, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
UM6P describes itself as an internationally oriented university committed to applied research, innovation, and solutions aligned with the sustainable economic development of Morocco and Africa. The SusMaT-RC research center focuses on developing advanced biobased products and materials, understanding structure-property relationships across scales, and using that knowledge to address technological challenges and support a green and circular economy.
Successful candidates will conduct rigorous testing to ensure system performance, contribute to a collaborative research environment, and travel to the United States for short-term work assignments. The posting highlights work on hydrogel formulation, (bio)polymer processing, porous material design and characterization, and the use of analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related area. Experience supervising students, producing technical reports and publications, contributing to grant-funded research, and working independently in an interdisciplinary team are all emphasized. Strong English communication, time management, organizational ability, and attention to quality are also important.
To apply, candidates must submit a detailed CV, cover letter, a synthetic presentation of their background, research projects, publications and achievements, research and teaching plans, any entrepreneurial ideas and contributions to UM6P, a one-page motivation statement, and contact details for three referees. The application link is provided in the posting. The deadline is not specified.
