About this position
The University of Antwerp, a dynamic and forward-thinking European institution, is offering a full-time Teaching & Research Assistant position in the field of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management within its Department of Management, Faculty of Business and Economics. As part of the Academic Assistant Staff (AAP), you will dedicate at least 50% of your working time to preparing and defending a PhD thesis focused on entrepreneurship and innovation management. The role also includes assisting with teaching and service activities, providing a well-rounded academic experience.
PhD research responsibilities involve organizing your own doctoral project, regularly reporting progress, participating in the Antwerp Doctoral School, presenting findings at academic conferences, and publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. You will also be encouraged to attract external funding by submitting project applications to organizations such as FWO, in consultation with your PhD supervisors.
Educational duties include supporting and teaching academic classes across a wide array of courses related to entrepreneurship, innovation management, strategy, and organization. You will contribute to the development of teaching methods, materials, and evaluations, and supervise students working on Bachelor and Master dissertations. Service provision is also a key aspect, with active involvement in the academic and societal activities of the Department of Management.
Applicants must hold a Master degree in Applied Economics or adjacent areas, or be in the final year of their degree and able to obtain it by the start date. Excellent study results, research qualities aligned with university policies, and teaching competences matching the University of Antwerp’s educational vision are required. Candidates should be motivated for professional development, act with integrity and creativity, and possess excellent written and spoken Dutch and English skills.
The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of six years following positive evaluations. The position offers a gross monthly salary according to the assistant pay scale, eco vouchers, internet-connectivity allowance, and either a bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting within Belgium. The planned start date is 15 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Most work will be conducted at the Stadscampus, providing a stimulating and dynamic environment.
Applications must be submitted online via the University of Antwerp’s job application platform by 7 April 2026. Required documents include a motivation letter, CV, and a short overview of research-related activities (max. 2 pages) with clear indication of research methods and theoretical approaches.
