I am advertising a new position in my program.
Postdoctoral Research Associate R-13911
This position supports research activities in tree crop physiology and pomology, with a focus on apples in Washington State. The successful candidate will contribute to applied and fundamental research efforts addressing key challenges in tree fruit production, particularly those related to climate variability. Duties include implementing established research protocols, with the opportunity to refine or develop new methods as needed to meet research goals. The primary objective of this position is to support the development of strategies aimed at mitigating freeze-related risks in apple orchards, particularly those associated with climate-induced shifts in tree dormancy cycles. Specific tasks involve monitoring bud phenology and dormancy, assessing phenological progression and dormancy transitions in selected cultivars, evaluating bud hardiness, determining lethal temperature thresholds, and analyzing and documenting results. The role will also include evaluating the use of Plant Growth Regulators in promoting cold acclimation and contributing to the preparation of scientific publications. This position offers the opportunity to work as part of a collaborative research team addressing timely and relevant challenges in temperate fruit crop production.

What's required

PhD position: Applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree in plant science, horticulture, biology, agriculture, or a related field. Strong interest in tree fruit production, climate variability, and plant physiology is preferred. Postdoctoral position: Candidates must hold a PhD in plant science, horticulture, biology, agriculture, or a closely related discipline. Experience with research protocols, bud phenology, dormancy cycles, cold acclimation, and plant growth regulators is desirable. Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively are expected for both positions.
