About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is advertising two postdoctoral positions within the African Genome Center (AGC) in Benguerir, Morocco. AGC is a multidisciplinary research entity working at the intersection of genomics, systems biology, microbial ecology, soil and plant sciences, environmental genomics, and biotechnology, with applications in agriculture, environmental sustainability, and health.
The postdoctoral researchers will join an interdisciplinary programme investigating the sources, mobility, and bioavailability of cadmium, chromium, and arsenic in agricultural soils. The project examines how these trace elements affect plant growth, nutrient uptake, and physiological performance, while also studying interactions with soil microbial communities and plant–soil feedback mechanisms.
Research will assess biological, chemical, and functional indicators of soil health and will place particular emphasis on bioremediation and nature-based solutions. Potential approaches include microbial-assisted remediation and the study of plant–microbe interactions in the rhizosphere, endophytic compartments, and mycorrhizal associations. The broader aim is to develop sustainable management strategies for contaminated agroecosystems.
The work will combine field investigations, controlled experiments, soil chemistry, microbial ecology, molecular tools, and functional assays. Researchers will work in a state-of-the-art environment supported by international partnerships and AGC’s focus on translational research, capacity building, and scientific excellence.
