About this position

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is offering a two-year postdoctoral position in topological data analysis within the Department of Mathematics and Faculty of Science. The project focuses on developing the mathematical foundations of multiparameter persistent homology, a central area of applied topology that studies topological features in data across multiple parameters.

The researcher will contribute primarily to mathematical research in topological data analysis and will also participate in the teaching portfolio of the Department of Mathematics. The position forms part of the VIDI project “New Connections in Topological Data Analysis”, supervised by Assistant Professor Magnus Bakke Botnan.

The successful researcher will join the Center for Topology and Applications Amsterdam (CTA2) and an inclusive, interdisciplinary mathematical research environment. The department combines fundamental and theoretical mathematics with research motivated by applications in business, the sciences, and societal issues, with related expertise in topology, geometry, algebra, dynamical systems, stochastics, statistics, probability, and data analytics.

The role is based at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s Faculty of Science in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The faculty brings together researchers, doctoral candidates, and students working across the natural sciences in a collegial and internationally oriented setting. The preferred starting date is 1 April 2027.
