About this position
WRAIR Structural Vaccinology Research Opportunity is an ORISE research appointment hosted by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), the Department of Defense’s premier research enterprise for infectious diseases, brain health, and performance optimization.
The opportunity focuses on structure-based protein design for vaccines and antibodies. As a participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers and gain hands-on experience in structural vaccinology, working on protein design workflows that support the development of biologically relevant vaccine and antibody candidates.
Research activities may include learning and using computational and molecular design tools such as AlphaFold, ProteinMPNN, RFDiffusion, PROSS, and PyMOL, as well as constructing, designing, expressing, and purifying proteins. The position is framed as a mentored research experience, with guidance from a mentor and integration into WRAIR’s biomedical research environment.
WRAIR’s broader mission is to deliver biomedical research and medical solutions that support U.S. Army and Department of Defense needs, and the institute provides specialized capabilities for force health protection and readiness challenges. The appointment is located in Silver Spring, Maryland.
