PhD Position in Cityscape Resilience and Performance-Based Structural Design

Open PhD position in cityscape resilience and performance-based design of structures at Iowa State University . The project sits at the intersection of civil engineering , structural engineering , probabilistic mechanics , and surrogate modeling . The successful PhD student will work on new approaches for performance-based structural design, with an emphasis on city-scale resilience and computational methods for structural response simulation. Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a closely related field; strong background in structural analysis and/or computational methods; familiarity with Python or a comparable programming environment. Preferred experience includes OpenSees or related structural analysis/simulation software, computational modeling, numerical methods, and/or structural response simulation. Start date: January 2027.
