About

Andrea Desiderato is an Assistant Professor at the University of Lodz, Poland. His research areas include biodiversity monitoring, marine invasions, and the ecological impact of invasive species, as demonstrated in his recent articles on real-time malaria detection, aquatic invaders, and the pollination biology of non-native plants. Dr. Desiderato's work combines field studies and integrative taxonomic approaches, significantly contributing to our understanding of ecological dynamics in different environments.

PhD opportunity at the University of Lodz in Poland in genomics , bioinformatics , and mitogenomics , focused on building genomic baselines for deep-sea small crustaceans. The project addresses the genomic “dark matter” of deep-sea biodiversity and aims to generate foundational molecular data for understanding evolution and connectivity in these organisms. The successful candidate will work with unique samples from the Pacific and Atlantic as part of the international MiningImpact 3 consortium , contributing to the bridge between classical deep-sea taxonomy and modern molecular approaches. The research is especially relevant for students interested in molecular biology, sequencing data analysis, evolutionary biology, and marine biodiversity. Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related field; knowledge of DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing, and computational tools; experience with sequencing data analysis; and strong analytical and communication skills. A strong interest in bioinformatics and willingness to develop advanced computational skills are emphasized. The position is described as fully funded within a major European research framework. Applicants should send a CV and a brief cover letter highlighting their bioinformatic background to the listed email addresses by 2026-04-30 .
