This postdoctoral project at EPFL focuses on coupled oscillations in plasmonic crystals and the study of plasmonic oscillations in metallic micro- and nanostructures. The research aims to understand whether these structures can produce plasmonic crystals with broad frequency bands of extraordinary optical transmission across the UV-VIS-NIR range, with potential relevance for photovoltaics, display technologies, OLED lighting, electrochromic devices, and energy-efficient insulating glazing. The position sits in the SCI-ENAC-AS: Nanotechnology for Solar Energy Conversion research group led by Prof. Andreas Schüler . The group develops novel micro- and nanostructured smart materials for active and passive solar energy applications integrated into the building envelope, with a particular emphasis on thin films and their electronic and optical properties. The role offers the chance to work in a lab environment focused on innovative materials and cutting-edge experimental equipment, within EPFL’s international research setting. The selected researcher will take full responsibility for original research while working closely with lab members and international collaborators. The project involves designing and executing experiments, analyzing and interpreting results, writing scientific articles, presenting at international conferences, and contributing to teaching and supervision activities.

This PhD project at EPFL focuses on the fabrication and experimental characterization of plasmonic crystals as part of the SNSF project “Coupled oscillations in plasmonic crystals” . The research investigates how plasmonic oscillations couple in metallic micro- and nanostructures, with the goal of achieving plasmonic crystals that show broad frequency bands of extraordinary optical transmission across the UV-VIS-NIR range. The work is embedded in the SCI-ENAC-AS: Nanotechnology for Solar Energy Conversion research group led by Prof. Andreas Schüler . The group develops micro- and nanostructured smart materials for active and passive solar energy applications integrated into the building envelope, with a particular emphasis on thin films and their electronic and optical properties. The PhD student will work closely with lab members and international collaborators on experiment design, measurement, analysis, interpretation, and publication of results. The role also includes presenting at international conferences, contributing to teaching, coaching Master students, and supporting basic administrative tasks. The project combines nanostructured materials research with optical and electronic characterization in a laboratory environment equipped for advanced experimental work.
