Antonios Varvitsiotis
Singapore University of Technology and Design
Antonios Varvitsiotis, Assistant Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), is recruiting PhD students under Singapore’s National Quantum Scholarship Scheme. The PhD program is hosted at SUTD, with research opportunities at the intersection of quantum information, quantum algorithms, mathematical optimization, learning, and multi-agent systems. This is an excellent opportunity for students passionate about quantum technologies and advanced computational methods. The National Quantum Scholarship Scheme (NQSS) is administered by CQT and offers a comprehensive funding package. International students receive a monthly stipend of S$4,500, which increases to S$5,000 after passing the qualifying exam. Singapore citizens and permanent residents receive higher stipends. The scholarship covers annual tuition and mandatory fees, a one-off airfare allowance for international students, and additional allowances for academic travel, computer, and books. The program is open to applicants worldwide who have at least a good 2nd Upper Honours degree or equivalent, and a strong interest in quantum information research. Submission of GRE, TOEFL, or IELTS scores is optional. To apply, interested candidates should contact Prof. Varvitsiotis directly with their CV and a brief note on research interests. Once a preliminary project and supervision are agreed upon, applicants will forward the approval email to [email protected] to receive further application instructions. Required documents include a CV, personal statement, certified copies of transcripts and degree scrolls, contact information for two referees, and a recent passport-style photograph. Additional supporting documents such as awards or certificates may strengthen the application. This opportunity is ideal for students seeking to advance their expertise in quantum information, quantum algorithms, and mathematical optimization, and to work in a vibrant research environment at SUTD and CQT.
