Arben Merkoçi
Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
PhD opportunity at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Spain , in the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group under the supervision of Prof. Arben Merkoçi . The project focuses on nanoscience , biosensing , nanotechnology , lateral flow assays , nanoparticle synthesis and functionalization , and biosensor/analytical platform development . The selected PhD student will contribute to the development of next-generation Lateral Flow Assays (LFAs) for the detection of biological threats, including design and optimization of assays, synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, international collaboration, scientific dissemination, and laboratory work under aseptic conditions. Ideal applicants have a Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Nanotechnology, or a related area, or expect to complete it before the contract starts. Experience with LFA development is helpful but not required. Backgrounds in nanoparticle synthesis, biosensor development, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, scientific software, and common lab equipment are considered advantageous. This is a full-time PhD position (37.5 hours/week) with a temporary contract until 31/03/2029 . The role is funded by a European Defence Fund project and the contract is funded by the European Union (GA-101254210). Salary depends on qualifications and demonstrated experience. Relocation support and life insurance are included. Applications must be submitted via the ICN2 website and should include a cover letter, a full CV with contact details, and reference letters or referee contacts. Applications are reviewed continuously, so candidates should apply as soon as possible.
