Postdoctoral Position in Laser Shock Propagation and Crystal Plasticity Modeling at Leuphana University Lüneburg
Leuphana University of Lüneburg is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Institute for Production Technology and Systems as part of the DFG-funded project “Laser Shock Propagation Investigation with high-Resolution in Time and Space.” This research focuses on the numerical modeling of wave propagation in textured metallic materials, utilizing advanced methods in crystal plasticity and multiscale modeling. The project is conducted in close collaboration with partners in France and Germany, integrating experimental and simulation approaches to gain a fundamental understanding of shock wave propagation in metals.
The successful candidate will handle the DFG-funded research project, coordinate with international research partners, and document and publish results in international journals. Key responsibilities include developing and validating numerical models of shock wave propagation within microstructures, extending models to non-local effects, and supporting the supervision of students and research assistants. The position offers an inspiring and supportive environment, with access to a dynamic campus, flexible working arrangements, and a range of professional development opportunities.
Applicants should hold a completed academic university degree (Master's or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, computational mechanics, materials science, metallurgical engineering, computer science, or a related field, and a completed or nearly completed PhD in a relevant area. Demonstrated scientific capability through high-quality publications, experience in material modeling, and ideally expertise in crystal plasticity and multiscale modeling are required. Excellent English communication skills and a proactive, team-oriented approach are essential.
The position is full-time (100%) for three years (salary group EG 13 TV-L), with a high level of job security, pension scheme, and additional benefits such as flexible working hours, mobile work options, and university-sponsored activities. Applications from candidates with severe disabilities are encouraged. The application deadline is April 1, 2026.
