The University of Gothenburg is offering a postdoctoral position in perinatal medical research, focusing on genetics and pregnancy on-a-chip systems. The research group, led by Professor Bo Jacobsson and Co-PI Pol Solé Navais, investigates genetic and environmental factors affecting human gestational age and preterm birth. The project is a collaboration with Ramkumar Menon at The University of Texas Medical Branch and involves advanced wet and dry lab research at the Perinatal laboratory within the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sahlgrenska Academy. The research aims to translate genetic discoveries into biological insights, particularly regarding preterm birth. The group utilizes unique genomic data, including large family trios from Norway and a Swedish birth registry, to map genetic variants to specific gene targets in endometrial stromal cells. The postdoc will expand these studies using pregnancy on-a-chip models, developing multi-cell type co-culture systems that better mimic pregnancy anatomy and function. Duties include conducting high-quality research, specialized laboratory tasks, and contributing to high-impact publications. The position also involves a planned one-year research stay at the University of Texas Medical Branch in the USA to develop and implement pregnancy-on-chip models. Applicants must have a PhD in molecular or cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biosciences, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field, with proven experience in experimental cell biology and molecular biology techniques. Excellent English skills and a track record of scientific writing are required. Additional desirable skills include experience with primary cell culture, gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9), organ-on-chip systems, molecular techniques (qPCR, Western blot, immunofluorescence), and understanding of pregnancy and fetal biology. The position is fully funded for 24 months, with salary set individually by the university. The working environment is international, collaborative, and highly productive, with opportunities for professional development and interdisciplinary research. The application deadline is 22 February 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the official University of Gothenburg job advertisement. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the supervisors for further details.
