Carmen Aguilar

A PhD position is available in Carmen Aguilar’s lab at the Institute of Molecular Infection Biology (IMIB), University of Würzburg, Germany, starting in March 2027. The project focuses on host–pathogen interactions during urinary tract infections. Researchers will use human bladder, prostate, and vaginal organoids together with single-cell RNA sequencing, microscopy, and functional genomics to investigate how pathogens interact with human tissues and to identify potential therapeutic strategies. The lab is seeking a curious, motivated, and enthusiastic PhD student with a background in microbiology, infection biology, or organoid technology. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, international research team working in infection biology and advanced human organoid models. Applications are due by November 30, 2026.
