PhD Researcher Position in Health Data Science at Polytechnic Institute of Porto (TBIO Research Centre)

The Polytechnic Institute of Porto, through its School of Health and the TBIO Research Centre in Translational Health and Medical Biotechnology, announces an international call for applications for one early-career PhD researcher position in Health Data Science. This opportunity is framed under Decree-Law No. 57/2016 and Law No. 57/2017, aiming to stimulate scientific and technological employment in Portugal. The position is based at TBIO@RISE|Health, Porto, and may involve work at other locations as required by research activities. The successful candidate will join ongoing and future projects focused on the development of intelligent systems, data collection, analysis and processing, predictive and real-time monitoring systems, and decision-support systems in health and well-being. The role also includes supporting laboratory management and contributing to the acquisition of new funded projects within TBIO. The contract is a fixed-term public employment contract for three years, automatically renewable for one-year periods up to a maximum of six years, contingent on project funding and performance evaluation. The gross monthly remuneration is €2,351.53, as established by national regulations. Applicants must hold a PhD in Health Data Science or related fields, with a dissertation relevant to the scientific field of the competition. Candidates with PhDs in non-related areas may be considered if their scientific and professional curriculum demonstrates a relevant profile. General requirements include being at least 18 years old, not disqualified from public functions, possessing the physical and psychological profile required, and compliance with mandatory vaccination laws. Proof of recognition, equivalence, or registration of the PhD degree is required if awarded by a foreign institution. Preferred qualifications include experience in international or national research projects, high-quality publications in relevant journals, experience in supervising PhD or Master’s/undergraduate students, and ability to lead or contribute to project proposals and competitive funding acquisition. Evaluation is based on scientific production (50%), training in Health Data Science (20%), and a scientific development plan (30%), with a minimum score of 50 points required in both curricular evaluation and interview. The jury for this competition includes Professors Catarina Mateus, Nuno Barbosa Rocha, Liliana Teixeira, João Miguel Silva e Costa Rodrigues, and Sílvia Patrícia Morim Fernandes, all affiliated with E2S|P.PORTO and TBIO.
