PhD-level course: Microsensor Analysis in Environmental Sciences (Denmark, May 2026)
The international research-training course "Microsensor Analysis in the Environmental Sciences" will be held at the Marine Biological Station Rønbjerg, Denmark, from May 4–13, 2026. Organized by Aarhus University and the University of Copenhagen, this PhD-level course offers hands-on experience with state-of-the-art microsensors, optodes, and chemical imaging techniques, specifically tailored for environmental sciences and microenvironmental analysis.
Participants will gain a broad overview of electrochemical and optical microsensor techniques, bioimaging, and their applications in environmental research. The course includes 2–3 days of intensive lectures by leading experts, followed by practical laboratory exercises and demonstrations of sensor construction, testing, and calibration. Over 4–5 days, students will conduct experimental projects under expert supervision, culminating in presentations and discussions of their results. Attendees are also expected to present their own research in short talks during the course, fostering a collaborative and network-building environment.
The course is open to 20 PhD students and young scientists/postdocs in environmental sciences. Applications require a brief CV and a statement of research interests and motivation. The course fee is 1200 EURO, covering accommodation and full catering; participants are responsible for their own travel expenses. Organizers include Prof. Michael Kühl (University of Copenhagen), Prof. emeritus Niels Peter Revsbech, Assoc. Prof. Klaus Koren, and Assist. Prof. Ugo Marzocchi (Aarhus University), as well as postdocs and assistant professors from both institutions. The course is held in a scenic location by the fjord, providing an excellent setting for learning, networking, and professional development in environmental science research.
