Christina Harvey at the University of California, Davis is hiring a postdoctoral scholar to help lead research at the Center for Animal Locomotion & Innovation (CALI) . This is an interdisciplinary opportunity at the intersection of animal flight , biomechanics , computer vision , machine learning , scientific computing , and multi-camera reconstruction . The postdoc will contribute to original research on animal flight and biomechanics, and will help transform very large multi-camera datasets into new scientific measurements and discoveries. The role also includes coordinating experiments, working with falconers and visiting research teams, and mentoring students in the BIRD Lab. CALI is described as a new shared facility with 57 synchronized motion-capture and high-speed cameras and a 70-foot flight hall , with partnerships spanning falconers, veterinarians, biologists, and engineers. The postdoctoral scholar can come from either a computational background or a biological/biomechanical background; applicants do not need to already cover both areas. Preferred preparation includes experience in computer science , computer vision , machine learning , database creation/management , scientific computing , multi-camera reconstruction , animal locomotion , organismal biology , experimental biomechanics , or high-speed imaging . The most important qualities highlighted are scientific independence, collaborative leadership, and enthusiasm for fundamental interdisciplinary research. This is a full-time position with funding available for two years . No deadline was stated in the post. Interested candidates should review the linked CALI/lab page for more information and next steps.
