David Barefield
Loyola University Chicago
Post-Doctoral Research Scholar in Cardiac Physiology at Loyola University Chicago Dr. David Barefield, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell & Molecular Physiology at Loyola University Chicago, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join the Barefield Lab. The position is fully in-person at the Maywood-Health Sciences Campus and is supported by recently funded projects. The lab studies atrial myopathies , contractile regulation of striated muscle , genetic cardiomyopathies , and the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation . Research uses mouse models and human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocyte models to investigate contractile biophysics, cellular and whole-heart electrophysiology, in vivo physiology, and molecular/biochemical effects of gene mutations on protein function. Training and research opportunities include super-resolution quantitative microscopy, image analysis, mass spectrometry, mouse models, iPSC-derived disease models, cardiac electrophysiology, and contractile biophysics. The department offers an open, collaborative environment with broad expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, cellular biophysics, imaging, aging, and proteomics, plus opportunities to interact with collaborators across Chicago research universities and attend local and national scientific meetings. Eligibility highlights: candidates must have recently obtained or will obtain before starting a PhD from a biomedical research background; an M.D. or PhD is required. Desired experience includes molecular cardiology, microscopy, tissue culture, biochemistry, mouse physiology, or biophysics. Strong communication skills, independence, teamwork, curiosity, and motivation for career development are emphasized. Funding: the role is grant-funded, with a salary range of $61,008 to $74,088 per year. How to apply: apply via the Loyola University Chicago careers posting. Prepare a resume and cover letter/letter of application and complete the supplemental questions in the portal. The posting lists a flexible start date and does not provide a closing date.
