Karolinska Institutet, one of the world's leading medical universities, is recruiting a doctoral (PhD) student in Skeletal Biology and Immunology. The position is based at the Department of Laboratory Medicine (LabMed), Division of Pathology in Flemingsberg, and the Department of Women's and Children's Health (KBH) in Solna, Stockholm, Sweden. The research group, led by Associate Professor Sara Windahl, focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that control bone strength, length, and the immune system, with cross-disciplinary research in bone biology, inflammatory and immunological conditions, and degenerative diseases. The PhD project will investigate mechanisms regulating longitudinal growth and the immune system, as well as spatial interactions between immune and stem cell niches in bone. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Sara Windahl, with co-supervisors Associate Professor Dhifaf Sarhan and Dr. Phillip Newton, in a vibrant, international research environment. Responsibilities include laboratory work, participation in group meetings, seminars, international meetings, supervision of other students, and fulfillment of PhD course requirements. Eligibility: Applicants must have a master's degree in biomedicine, biotechnology, immunology, molecular biology, or a related field. Proficiency in English (equivalent to Swedish upper secondary school English B/English 6) is required. Candidates should have practical experience with standard molecular and cell biology techniques, strong organizational skills, and good communication abilities. Experience with mice, programming skills (R, Python), and experience with fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry are advantageous. Funding: The position is a full-time doctoral studentship for up to four years, with a contractual salary and employment benefits, including access to a modern gym and medical care reimbursements. The studentship is fully funded according to Karolinska Institutet regulations. Application: Submit your application via the Varbi recruitment system by 27 April 2026. Required documents include a personal letter, CV, degree projects, previous publications, and documents certifying eligibility. Applications should preferably be in English. For more information, visit the official application link or contact the main supervisor.
