MS Position in Forest Ecohydrology at University of Georgia (Aubrey Lab)
The University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) invite applications for a fully funded MS position in Forest Ecohydrology. The successful candidate will join the Aubrey Lab, which focuses on understanding environmental and structural controls on forest floor interception and evaporation, using both field and laboratory experiments. This research is part of a broader project investigating forest evapotranspiration components and tree physiology within a phytoremediation system, offering hands-on experience with advanced instrumentation and opportunities to contribute to our understanding of forest floor fuel dynamics and wildland fire behavior.
The Aubrey Lab specializes in forest ecophysiology, exploring water, carbon, and nitrogen cycling in forest ecosystems, with a particular interest in belowground processes and their interactions with aboveground mechanisms. The lab is located at SREL, a renowned research unit of the University of Georgia, situated near Aiken, South Carolina, and operates on the Savannah River Site, the first National Environmental Research Park in the USA. SREL is recognized for its pioneering work in environmental research, radioecology, remediation, and stewardship, with over 3,800 peer-reviewed publications.
The MS position is ideal for candidates with a B.S. in ecology, forestry, hydrology, plant biology, biogeochemistry, or related fields. Preferred qualifications include field experience, strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a basic statistical background. The program requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and international applicants must meet English language proficiency standards (TOEFL or IELTS). The successful applicant will receive a two-year graduate research assistantship, including an annual stipend of approximately $26,500 and a tuition waiver. The initial semesters will be spent on the UGA campus in Athens, GA, followed by research residency at SREL.
