Postdoctoral Fellowships in Philosophy of Science, Cognitive Science, and Human-Robot Interaction at the University of Milano-Bicocca

Four post-doctoral research fellowships will soon be available at the University of Milano-Bicocca within the RiLS: Robots in the Life Sciences project, hosted by the RobotiCSS Lab . The project is funded by the FIS Advanced Grant (Fondo Italiano per la Scienza) and runs in an interdisciplinary environment where philosophy and empirical research on robotics and cognitive science are closely integrated. The call is aimed at researchers with expertise in one or more of the following areas: philosophy of scientific modelling , philosophy of scientific explanation , philosophy of scientific discovery , philosophy of measurement , philosophy of cognitive science , and philosophy of neuroscience . The project asks whether robots can serve as valid scientific models for studying cognition and behaviour, and it uses an in vivo approach based on studies developed within the project itself. The lab offers a rich research environment with humanoid and non-humanoid robots, behavioural and cognitive analysis tools, eye-tracking, motion tracking, and prototyping facilities. The team will include postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and collaborators, with support from an international scientific committee. The positions are expected to open in September/October 2026 , last three years , and start in January 2027 . The gross annual salary is €37,000 before taxes, including social security and pension contributions. Interested candidates should contact [email protected] and watch for the official application call when it is released.
