Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Host-Pathogen Interactions

Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Host-Pathogen Interactions at Karolinska Institutet This postdoctoral position is based at the Cell Signalling, Immunity and Nanoimaging Lab (CSI:Nano), located at SciLifeLab and Karolinska Institutet in Solna, Sweden. The project sits in an interdisciplinary environment spanning biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering, with a strong focus on understanding how macromolecules mediate host-pathogen interactions. The successful candidate will work on experimental and computational pipelines to study pathogen–host contact at a molecular level. The work includes advanced reconstitution approaches, model membrane systems such as GUVs, GPMVs, SLBs, and BSLBs, state-of-the-art imaging methods including FLIM, spectral imaging, lattice-light-sheet microscopy, and flow cytometry, as well as molecular dynamics simulations. The project also involves virus-like particles, human cells, and the development of software and analysis tools for multiparametric datasets. The position is hosted in the lab of Assoc. Prof. Erdinc Sezgin within the COMBINE consortium supported by EU Horizon. The lab emphasizes open science, data sharing, diversity, and healthy feedback culture, and offers access to strong interdisciplinary expertise and advanced infrastructure at SciLifeLab and KI. This is a 2-year full-time temporary position with potential extension by mutual agreement. The advertised start date is latest 1 January 2027. Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent foreign degree by the time of the employment decision, and having completed the doctorate within the last three years is considered an advantage. Required application materials include a PhD certificate, detailed CV, publication list, a one-page summary of current work, and a one-page motivation letter tailored to the position. The application must be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system by 12 September 2026. Contact persons listed in the posting include Assoc. Prof. Erdinc Sezgin and Karin Björström. The post is located in Solna, Sweden, at Karolinska Institutet / SciLifeLab.
