PhD Fellowship in Business Informatics, Deep Learning, and Business Architecture at Ghent University
The UGent Business Informatics research group at Ghent University, Belgium, is offering a fully funded four-year PhD Fellowship. The position is open in areas related to the research lines of Professors Seppe vanden Broucke (deep learning, graph learning, geospatial analytics, process mining), Frederik Gailly (ontologies, knowledge graphs, process modelling, process support), and Geert Poels (business architecture, business ecosystem modelling, system-of-systems governance, capability-based management). The research group focuses on Business Architecture, Analytics, and Process Management, with application fields including SMEs, manufacturing industry, public sector, healthcare, and business-IT consultancy.
The successful candidate will conduct scientific research in Business Informatics to obtain a doctoral degree, participate in the mandatory doctoral training programme, and support teaching activities (up to 4 hours/week). The research vision encompasses enterprise modelling, engineering, architecture, business process management (organizational and technical perspectives), and business analytics. The group values interdisciplinary approaches and the translation of research results into industry solutions.
Applicants must hold a Master's degree (preferably in Business Informatics, Business Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems) and demonstrate strong academic results. Excellent English proficiency and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are required. Candidates should clearly indicate their research interests and how they align with the research lines of the listed professors in their motivation letter.
The fellowship is fully funded, with an initial 12-month contract extendable up to 48 months upon positive evaluation. The fellowship amount is based on the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority, and is tax-free.
