Postdoctoral Position – QuantERA PROTEQT Project at Centre Européen des Sciences Quantiques, University of Strasbourg

The University of Strasbourg, in partnership with the Centre Européen des Sciences Quantiques (CESQ) and international collaborators, is offering a postdoctoral position as part of the QuantERA PROTEQT project. This initiative, cofunded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), aims to advance quantum science and technology by developing new protocols for protecting quantum information in small clusters of qubits. The project focuses on enhancing qubit coherence by storing quantum information in the lowest energy states of Rydberg atom ensembles, paving the way for future fault-tolerant neutral atom quantum processors. The successful candidate will join the CESQ, a leading European centre for quantum research attached to the Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS). The research environment is highly collaborative, with opportunities to engage in cross-border meetings and present work at national and international conferences. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the technical development of the aQCess platform, a neutral atom quantum computer based on ytterbium atoms in optical tweezers, and perform experimental studies on Rydberg-interacting atomic ensembles. Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in physics, with expertise in theoretical or experimental atomic physics, especially Rydberg atoms. Required skills include experience with laser cooling and trapping, lasers, optical tweezers, electronics, computer control, and vacuum systems. The position demands strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency in technical English. Experience supervising students is advantageous, and personal qualities such as curiosity, motivation, organisational skills, and adaptability are valued. The position is full-time and based at the Centre Européen de Sciences Quantiques, Campus Cronenbourg, Strasbourg. Funding is provided by the ANR under the QuantERA programme, with the contract running from 1 June 2024 to 31 December 2027 and employment expected to start on 1 February 2026.
