Post-doctoral researcher in augmented reality
IMT Atlantique is recruiting a
post-doctoral researcher in augmented reality
for the INUIT (Immersive Natural User Interaction) team within the Computer Science Department in Brest, France. The position is part of the
EMPOWR
project, which aims to build a multi-layered augmentation ecosystem for industrial workspaces. The project combines an adaptive AR workbench with a Cognitive AI Companion (ALMA), an LLM-based system designed to support workers as enhanced decision-makers in intelligent manufacturing environments.
The selected researcher will work under the functional responsibility of
Prof. Guillaume Moreau
and in collaboration with the INUIT team. Core tasks include designing an AR design space for complex-task information display, implementing the AR workbench and its connectors to other project tools, preparing deployment for two industrial use cases, and contributing to project-wide activities such as deliverables, technical meetings, general assemblies, and scientific publications.
The research and development work focuses on mixed reality interaction, augmented reality system design, generic AR components, interface design between software modules, and deployment in real industrial settings. The workbench will be informed by outputs from ALMA and by physiological signals monitored from workers, with validation through user studies in the partner use cases.
Eligibility emphasizes a PhD in Computer Science obtained less than three years before the hire date. Required technical expertise includes virtual and augmented reality plus advanced C# and/or C++ programming. Desirable experience includes computer vision and data visualization. The role also requires real-time computer graphics, project management, collaborative development practices, teamwork, strong interpersonal communication, excellent English, scientific writing, and autonomy.
This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral appointment (38 hours/week) based in France, with an expected start date of 1 January 2027. The application deadline is 23 October 2026.
