PhD Position in Wheat Nutritional Genomics at Aarhus University

Aarhus University is offering a PhD fellowship in Wheat Nutritional Genomics within the Agroecology programme at the Graduate School of Technical Sciences. The successful candidate will join the Section for Crop Genetics and Biotechnology at the Department of Agroecology, located at Research Center Flakkebjerg, Denmark. The research focuses on identifying and investigating the genetic mechanisms underlying nutritional characteristics in winter wheat, aiming to enhance the nutritional value of wheat through advanced genomics and precise phenotyping. The PhD student will work with diverse winter wheat accessions, utilizing large-scale multi-omics data analysis, molecular biology techniques, and bioinformatics tools to identify and characterize genomic regions linked to improved nutritional traits. The project involves generating and analyzing genomic datasets, performing phenotypic profiling, and integrating multi-omics data to uncover key genetic loci. The research group offers a dynamic, inclusive, and multidisciplinary environment, supporting both independent and collaborative work. Applicants must hold an MSc in Plant Breeding, Biotechnology, or a related field, and demonstrate strong motivation for wheat nutritional genomics. Required skills include experience with basic molecular biology techniques, basic programming (R, Python, bash), and fluency in English. Experience with multi-omics datasets and molecular biology experiments is advantageous. The selection process will consider CV, motivation statement, and reference letters, with shortlisted candidates invited for interviews. The position is available from 1 April 2026 or later, with an application deadline of 31 January 2026. For further information, applicants may contact Professor Henrik Brinch-Pedersen ([email protected]) or Assistant Professor Sandip Mallikarjun Kale ([email protected]). Application details and requirements are available on the official Aarhus University PhD portal. Aarhus University values diversity and encourages all qualified candidates to apply. Keywords: Wheat Nutritional Genomics, Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology, Multi-omics, Agroecology, Genomics, Phenotyping, Bioinformatics.
