About
Henrik Bruus is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Technical University of Denmark. His research focuses on electromechanical coupling in polaronic materials, acoustic radiation forces, and microfluidic channel flows. His recent articles explore a range of topics including acoustofluidic applications and nonperturbative effects in thermoviscous acoustofluidics.

DTU Physics at the Technical University of Denmark is advertising a 3-year PhD scholarship in Theoretical Metamaterial Acoustofluidics , starting 1 January 2027 (or by mutual agreement). The project is supervised by Professor Henrik Bruus and is part of the theoretical acoustofluidics project High-performance, metamaterial-based acoustofluidc devices , funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF-FTP). The research focuses on the fundamental physics of fluids embedded in elastic solids, especially metamaterials actuated by ultrasound through electromechanical transducers. The work combines microscale acoustofluidics , elastodynamics , electromechanical actuation , finite element method (FEM) simulations , acoustic resonances in microdevices, acoustic forces on suspended particles and solutions, and acoustic streaming. The position is theory/modeling-heavy and involves developing physical models, implementing weak-form FEM simulations, and numerically testing optimal metamaterial-based devices for high-performance nanoparticle handling. Applicants should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent. The post emphasizes strong theoretical and numerical skills, the ability to critically validate models, work independently and in teams, contribute original theory/modeling results, collaborate with international experimental partners, and communicate clearly in writing and orally. Applicants may apply before completing the master's degree, but cannot start before it is awarded. The scholarship is a full-time PhD employment under DTU’s collective agreement and salary structure. The announcement does not specify a stipend amount. The work location is Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. Apply online through DTU’s Apply now portal. Submit one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, and grade transcripts plus BSc/MSc diploma with grading scale description. Deadline: 6 November 2026 .
