Postdoctoral Researcher in Regional Climate Dynamics

The University of Gothenburg’s Department of Earth Sciences is offering a postdoctoral position in Regional Climate Dynamics , with a research focus on extreme precipitation associated with the Asian summer monsoon over the Tibetan Plateau under climate change. The successful researcher will investigate how climate warming alters monsoon-driven local dynamical and thermodynamical processes, large-scale moisture transport, atmospheric circulation, and the resulting behavior of mesoscale convective systems. The work combines analysis of observational and reanalysis datasets with high-resolution atmospheric modelling, including case studies using tools such as WRF and dynamical downscaling with ERA5 to assess long-term trends and variability in MCS activity. The position is placed at a strong interdisciplinary Earth sciences environment with expertise in remote sensing, climate modelling, isotope analysis, and GIS. The project is especially relevant for candidates interested in regional climate variability, high-mountain environments, monsoon systems, and process-based climate and weather modelling across scales. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, climate science, or a closely related field by the start date. The degree should normally have been obtained within the last three years, unless special circumstances apply. Essential qualifications include experience with atmospheric process analysis, reanalysis or large observational datasets, scientific programming, and excellent English communication skills. Desirable experience includes numerical atmospheric modelling, high-resolution simulations, HPC environments, and a publication record on the Asian summer monsoon, extreme precipitation, or the Tibetan Plateau.
